Shadowlight
By Dawn Montgomery | September 29, 2009

For today’s Bookmania, I’m reading Shadowlight by Lynn Viehl. She sweeps me away again and again with her Darkyn world. It’s a recommended read all the way, and I’ll be posting a review on my site this weekend.
With a single touch, Jessa Bellamy can see anyone’s darkest secrets. She’s tried to hide her psychic ability from everyone, but a biotech company called GenHance has discovered her talent, and intends to take her, kill her and harvest her priceless DNA to sell it to the highest bidder.
A mysterious photographer named Gaven Matthias is also interested in Jessa; he’s been trying to find her for months. When GenHance makes their move, Gaven has no choice but to kidnap Jessa himself so he can protect her and convince her to join him in helping protect others like her.
Jessa discovers that she can’t see any of Gaven’s secrets, so she doesn’t know if he’s telling the truth, but as a monstrous assassin created by GenHance’s experiments closes in on them, she must decide if the strong attraction they share is proof enough that Gaven is her greatest ally — or is a smokescreen hiding a terrible secret.

By Kim Knox/Rees | July 7, 2009
What to do when you get antibiotics that mess with your head…write a wicked story about demons. This story flowed and it was a lot of fun to write too
Be warned it’s a naughty story with an unusual take on m/f/m, oh and there is an HEA
*grin*
Anya Sigurdson is counting down the days.
She works on an array orbiting a distant star completely alone and the isolation is seriously cramping her need for sex. She’s promised herself a wild time on a pleasure planet, but until her remaining thirteen days are up, then her own fingers will have to do…or so she thinks.
Damianos has other plans. Coming from a race of pure energy, Damianos, seeks pleasure in flesh and has an unusual talent. They can fracture into as many lovers as Anya needs. She is a joy, a rare find, and they intend to enjoy her, love her every chance they can. But to keep her they need something else, an anchor, another body for them to fix in her dimension.
And a prime candidate is on his way.

The Beast continues
By Dawn Montgomery | June 5, 2009
A couple months ago I released a free read entitled The Beast through Changeling Press’s free online ezine. The results were nothing short of amazing…Emails from all over asking for more of the story. So I’m continuing it for an end of summer free read release. I hope you enjoy a further snippet of The Beast.
*WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS UNEDITED AND MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 18*
“Your arrival marked the coming of the storm. No living soul outside the beast has ever stepped foot on these premises during his turning. They will wonder if it was you who brought the hard winter.”
Rose tried to ignore the whisper of truth in its words. Yes. They would blame her, but that was nothing new. What worried her was whether they would blame the beast.
She wanted to go to him. Needed his touch. She clenched the banister. Two nights of torture, of waiting. She wanted him, all of him.
“It is an unholy obsession.” The wraith grew closer. It’s chilled fingers scraped along her spine leaving ice in their wake.
Was it speaking of her obsession or its own? Terror ran along her nerves. She knew it was the wraith. He needed to feed in order to grow stronger.
“Rose.” The Beast’s throaty voice banished the fear from her mind. Warmth and lust coiled in her stomach.
“Sir.” She dipped her head but couldn’t tear her eyes away from his descent.
Dark black hair was pulled back in a tight tail. Loose tendrils touched his cheeks where not even a five o’clock shadow remained. His jaw was firm and full sensual lips begged for her kisses. She had it bad. He watched her with an unreadable expression. Would he dismiss her? Her stomach twisted. She’d disobeyed him. Would he send her away?
He stopped within a breath’s reach and reached out to curl one strand of her hair around his finger. “Are you still so brave, my sweet Rose? Will you truly give your body to the devil himself?”
“You’re no devil.” She meant it despite the tremble in her voice.
His thumb brushed her lip and she let a soft sigh escape her mouth. “That remains to be seen.” He dipped his head and she met his lips for the softest kiss she’d ever imagined. His tongue teased and tormented hers until a moan slid from her throat.

Space Influence
By Dawn Montgomery | June 2, 2009
Most of you know I’m a multiple wip writer (I have several works in progress going on at the same time) so I need set up soundtracks to get me in the right mood for whatever I’m writing. This time it was a video that captured my imagination. Lynn Viehl gave an awesome head’s up on a cool new video by Linkin Park, and let me tell you, this is DEFINITELY inspiration for my new Sci Fi Romance.

Facts about Chocolate
By Dawn Montgomery | June 1, 2009
Today’s brain fluff comes to us courtesy of that delectable food group *WEG* chocolate.
Since I’m currently working on a title for the Changeling series, Sex and Chocolate, I’ve had this decadence on my mind.
So, without any further ado, here are a few facts you may or may not have known about chocolate:
White chocolate is not a chocolate at all. It is actually made of confectioner’s sugar, cocoa butter, and milk solids. While it does come from the cacao bean (via cocoa butter), it doesn’t contain cacao solids so is not recognized by the FDA as an actual “chocolate.” As a matter of fact, a majority of the ivory white chocolate you can purchase today on your grocer’s shelves do not contain cocoa butter at all.
You can tell the difference between true white “chocolate” and the imitation in two ways. True white chocolate is ivory in color and consistency and has that cocoa butter taste. The imitation has vegetable extracts and animal fat (look at the ingredients!) and is almost tasteless in comparison.
Cacao beans were used as currency for the Mayans and Aztecs. It was also considered an aphrodisiac and only the richest of their people could afford to drink the bitter chocolate brews they concocted.
In 1960, Hershey’s chocolate syrup was what Alfred Hitchcock used as blood in the now infamous shower scene in the movie, Psycho.
Chocolate can be lethal to dogs. Theobromine, an ingredient that stimulates the cardiac muscle and the central nervous system, causes chocolate’s toxicity. About two ounces of milk chocolate can be poisonous for a 10-lb puppy. Dark chocolate takes even less. Keep that in mind around small kids who like to “share” their goodies.
For many years it was thought that chocolate was bad for your health. It has been proven, however, that dark chocolate can actually benefit the body. This dark decadence has the highest antioxidant content of any other food. Good to know.
Dark Chocolate is also a mild stimulant (to help a bit with concentration). This effect is actually increased in horses, so it is forbidden in horse racing.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of Brain Fluff! And now back to my Dove dark chocolate and Reese’s PB minatures.

New Release: Flesh and Shadows
By Kim Knox/Rees | May 26, 2009
Flesh-fruit—priceless delicacy, forbidden fruit…
Rand has a secret. Bitten by one of the deadly shadow-snakes, he’s changed and will go to any length to see that he remains in charge of his planet—and the flesh-fruit harvest—including using his alien abilities to convince Agent Niamh Sullivan to lie to her superiors. His plan is simple, but what he doesn’t realize is that his venom is an aphrodisiac. With it, Rand has become irresistible.
Now Niamh must deny their overwhelming mutual attraction. But as their need for each other spirals out of control, the danger becomes apparent. Rand will take her humanity, take who and what she is. Niamh has to make the choice. Turn him in. Or succumb to his potent, forbidden temptation.
Here a link to an excerpt
And the buy link is here *grin*
Flesh and Shadows is the first novella I sold to Ellora’s Cave. I *squeed* all over my other half when he was trying to set up the Wii for the hobbits, lol He had no clue why I was so excited *grin*
And the story? Well Rand is just yum, a man driven by honour…and the beast within him.
You can find my other Ellora’s Cave titles here.
